Reprint of the very rare first edition. One of the mostinfluential works on political economy, it had a profoundeffect on social policy during the nineteenth century, especially on the development of harsher poor laws in GreatBritain. (It was the guiding spirit behind the Poor LawAmendment Act of 1834.) The central point of the Essay isthat population increases geometrically while food suppliesincrease arithmetically, which will eventually lead tostarvation and disease in the poorest sections of thecommunity. In order to prevent this from happening, people, especially the poor, should have children later in life andlimit the size of their families.Reprinted by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd.Distributed by William S.
