These five volumes contain the complete texts of the lawcodes drafted for New York State by David Dudley Fieldduring the years 1847-1865. They include Field'stwo procedural codes and three substantive codes. Field wasperhaps the leading American proponent of codification. Heserved with both groups of commissioners and, more than anyother individual, was responsible for the drafting of allthe codes. He has been called "an inexhaustible one mancodifying machine."
