We’re excited to announce that Celebrating Diversity: A Legacy of Minority Leadership in the American Association of Law Libraries, Second Edition is the winner of the 2019 Joseph L. Andrews Legal Literature Award. The book identifies and profiles new and future leaders in AALL, demonstrating the growth of diverse law library professionals in the field.

About the Award


The Joseph L. Andrews Legal Literature Award honors noteworthy legal literature published in various forms, including books, pamphlets, periodicals, websites, and databases. ‘Legal literature’ includes works that: (1) are bibliographical in nature, listing the works of a particular author, printer, or country, or a particular theme; or (2) contribute to the body of legal literature and that also contribute to advancing legal research or law librarianship. The winner of the Andrews Award is chosen based upon the levels of creativity and originality involved in its compilation.

About the Book


Celebrating Diversity: A Legacy of Minority Leadership in the American Association of Law Libraries, Second Edition provides updated information and new insights into diversity in law librarianship. The book identifies and profiles law librarians of diverse backgrounds, outlining their contributions and impact.

The profiles of minority librarians are arranged in four parts:

  • Part I: Legacy of Leadership
  • Part II: The Enduring Legacy: Leaders and Mentors
  • Part III: Leaders of Today
  • Part IV: Leaders of Tomorrow

The book furthers AALL’s core purpose and organizational values to advance the profession of law librarianship. By documenting the contributions of minority law librarians to AALL and law librarianship, it offers a significant contribution to the history of diversity in the profession.
