The Department of State originally published Admission of Aliens in 1929 as a guide for diplomatic and consular officials with oversight of admission of non-U.S. citizens into the United States by land, sea and air. Admission of Aliens is a comprehensive handbook on all aspects of immigration, including quotas and restrictions that offer a glimpse of America’s apprehensions in the era of the Great Depression. This work includes executive orders such as one made by President Calvin Coolidge dated May 13, 1927.
